Entering rehab is a big step, but formal therapy only covers part of recovery. Treatment addresses the medical and psychological side of addiction. Building a life in recovery usually takes more than that, and this is where peer support comes in. For many people, it becomes a steady source of help long after treatment ends.

What is Peer Recovery?

Peer recovery fellowships play a crucial role alongside formal addiction treatment by bridging the gap between clinical care and daily life after rehab. Peer recovery fellowships are peer-support communities made up of individuals who have the same goal of overcoming addiction.

At Asana Lodge, we integrate recovery fellowships into our addiction treatment. Cocaine Anonymous (CA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings are held directly on site and residents can also attend external Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings.

By providing these opportunities alongside a structured programme, we help residents to create a foundation for long-term community support while remaining in a safe and nurturing environment.

What to Expect at Recovery Fellowships

At their heart, recovery fellowships are all about providing a sense of belonging to those who are going through the same struggles as you. In essence, they offer:

  • A Shared Experience: A place where you can actually talk to people who know exactly what its like to be in your shoes
  • Real Connections: Chances to make genuine friendships with people who are further along in their recovery or on the same journey as you
  • Practical Help when You Need it Most: Advice, support and someone keeping you on track – because lets face it, it’s easier with someone who has been through the same struggles
  • Consistency: Set meetings that give you something to look forward to – a reminder that you’re not alone, and that you’ve got people who are there for you
  • A Community that Actually Cares: A supportive circle of like-minded people

They’re not run by doctors or medical staff, but by people who are in recovery themselves, and who understand what you’re going through.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA Meetings in Rehab)

AA is a global fellowship dedicated to helping people recover from alcohol addiction. Alcoholics Anonymous rehab meetings provide a welcoming environment where people share their experiences, strength and hope in order to solve a common problem and help others to recover.

As part of your time at Asana Lodge, you’ll be offered the chance to attend external 12-step meetings at rehab in the local community. These are not offered or managed by Asana Lodge but complement our personalised treatment programmes.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA Meetings in Rehab)

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) rehab meetings provide peer support for those recovering from drug addiction, regardless of the substance used. The meetings take place in a safe and confidential environment and focus on the process of recovery. At Asana Lodge, NA meetings take place on-site. This allows individuals recovering from drug dependencies to engage with NA from the comfort and convenience of our centre.

Cocaine Anonymous (CA meetings in Rehab)

Asana Lodge also offers Cocaine Anonymous rehab meetings for residents on-site. CA is an international recovery fellowship for those looking to recover from cocaine addiction and other mind-altering substances. It uses a broad yet recovery-focused approach but welcomes anyone seeking a life free from drugs. Hosting CA meetings at Asana Lodge gives individuals access to targeted peer support while helping them to connect with others who share similar experiences and goals.

Why Start Recovery Fellowships Early in Addiction Treatment?

Introducing your clients to peer fellowships while they’re still in residential treatment – that way, they get a head start on building a support network. One of the main benefits is that you get to learn about all the help out there early on, so when the time comes to leave treatment, you know what’s available to you.

  • You meet others who are going through similar experiences: Knowing that you’re not the only one who’s struggled can really help to chip away at those feelings of being completely alone and ashamed.
  • It builds confidence: Being able to open up in a supportive environment helps people develop at least a little bit of social confidence – which can be a real help.
  • It helps you establish a recovery routine: Attending one weekly meeting with a fellowship can lead to you developing some good habits that will serve you well once rehab is over.
  • It reduces the isolation that can come with addiction: fellowships can provide an instant and welcoming network of people who have been through similar experiences.
  • It gives you a safety net that lasts a long time: Connecting with a fellowship while you’re still in treatment can give you a sense of belonging and opens you up to support that’s available all over the country once formal treatment is done.

Fellowships and Professional Treatment

It’s worth noting that peer support and professional addiction treatment are different even though they do lend each other a helping hand.

While fellowships like AA, NA & CA can offer useful guidance as you navigate recovery, here at Asana Lodge we provide a comprehensive package of medical and psychological support which includes:

Therapeutic approaches we may include in professional treatment include:

Fellowships aren’t a replacement for proper professional treatment – they don’t offer any medical advice or therapy, and that’s not what they’re meant to do. Instead, they’re a complementary tool that works best when used in conjunction with clinical help.

Recovery Fellowships Are an Integral Part of the Asana Lodge Treatment Journey

At Asana Lodge, we want to give you every chance to build a healthy, lasting recovery. That’s why we host onsite CA and NA meetings, and there are local AA meetings too. These group meetings and the chance to get out and about really work alongside our bespoke clinical addiction treatment programme.
